A series of digital prints celebrating the beauty and resilience of coastal flora. This flora survives, without cultivation or human intervention and is often overlooked as it is passed by, unheeded. The isolating and enhancing blue background to each piece echoes the groundbreaking botanical work of Anna Atkins who, in 1843, was the first person to use the emerging science of photography to illustrate a scientific reference book, “British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions”. With this body of work, coastal flora is removed from its usual context and the viewer is invited to stop and look at the form, texture and subtle colouration of specimens more closely in order to appreciate their natural aesthetic qualities.
